Let me preface this post by saying I am definitely my mother's daughter! (Mom, do you remember the Slurpee debacle in California? ;)
Yesterday, Preston, his mom, and I all went to the mall. (So far, so good, right?) As you can imagine, being the Saturday after Thanksgiving, it was busy. Very busy. So while his mom was doing some Christmas shopping, Preston and I wandered into the Apple store. I am always trying to convince him that Apple products are far superior to everything else but he is convinced that people who buy Apple products are flaming liberals who put Obama stickers on their Prius. Whatevs. Anyway, I was showing him the MacBook Air and we were marveling at how thin it is when I said, "Where are the USB ports?" Preston pointed out that they were on the side and that the little port tucked back in when you weren't using them. My last words before the most embarrassing thing that could ever have occurred to me were, "Gee, I wonder what happens if you pull this little cord out..."
The most ear-piercing, glass-shattering alarm I have ever heard sounded through, not just the entire Apple store, THE WHOLE MALL!!!! The poor Apple employees couldn't even turn it off without a key so the the stupid alarm went off for five minutes!!!! People were leaving the Apple store because it was so loud. I. Wanted. To. Die. And Preston REALLY wanted to die. I have never wanted the earth to swallow me up so much before. I was laughing so hard, I was sweating!! Preston? Not laughing. Which made it so much funnier to me!!
The best part was when I said, "They should really warn you not to pull that cord out of the computer," and Preston politely pointed out that they do-in the form of a giant sticker on it that says, "Please do not remove. Alarm will sound."
I would like to pretend that this kind of thing is atypical for me, but if you know me at all, you now that is pretty much par for course. Classic Hilarry.
