The Winning Door!

This week was "Read Across America" week, which unless you are a teacher, probably means nothing to you! :) To celebrate "Read Across America," and Dr. Seuss's birthday, our school held a door-decorating contest. The kids were so excited when they heard the announcement this afternoon that they won. They were seriously screaming and jumping around. You would have thought this was the Olympics!

My class was hardcore about winning this contest! I think my competitive nature may be rubbing off on them! You can't really tell from this picture, but I took pictures of them making "nutty" faces for the door and they came out so cute! The brown circles are coconuts that they wrote their favorite book titles on.

The funniest part of the whole door-decorating debacle was that my 5th graders were in a fierce competition with a kindergarten class! My friend, Krista, who teaches kindergarten came over one morning and told my class that her kindergarten class was going to kick our butts and that was all the kids needed to motivate them to make a cute door. They were so intense that I sent 2 of them over to the kindergarten on a secret mission with a camera to take pictures of the competition before we got started!! They kept promising they would be "stealth" and not let anyone see them so they told me they turned off the flash and everything so they wouldn't be spotted!

This is the kindergarten's door. So cute, huh?
